Safe House Center
Teen Voice is SafeHouse Center’s outreach and education group, consisting of high school aged activists working to end sexual violence in their community. Through our continued work with The Neutral Zone, we partnered with Teen Voice for a 8 week screen printing class held in conjunction with our weekly lessons at Neutral Zone. Teen Voice members started with group brainstorms and sketches, advancing to highly polished screen printed shirts with their hand drawn artwork.
During our initial meeting, we educated Teen Voice about design fundamentals especially as they related to print making. As the lessons continued, they worked through the entire process from graphic design and screen exposure to printing on our six-colour table top press.
Beyond the mechanics, Teen Voice practiced marketing basics as they considered how to best tailor their shirts to their audience, they answered like “what’s the best colour and ink combination for high contrast and appeal?” and “what sort of size distribution would most fit our market?”
They utilized these shirts as fundraisers for SOAR (Speak Out Against Rape) a benefit show featuring teen musical and spoken word talent at Neutral Zone. For more information about the SafeHouse and Teen Voice visit their website at http://www.safehousecenter.org/
